Climate

Poland lies in the temperate climatic zone. An important feature of the climate of Poland is its transitional character between the maritime and continental climates. As a result, differing masses of air move over the territory of Poland from the west and from the east. Preponderance of maritime or continental air masses causes the variances in the course of seasons in particular years. The winters are sometimes mild and sometimes cold, similarly the summers are cool and rainy, or hot and dry.

As a result of this transitional nature of our climate, all the seasons (with exception of summer) enter our country not from the north, but rather from the west in the case of spring, and from the east in the case of autumn and winter. Only the summer enters Poland from the south. Climatologists discern in our country as many as six seasons, because there are distinct transitional seasons between winter and spring and between autumn and winter (early spring and early winter). During these transitional seasons, temperatures stay around 0oC.
