Geological Build and Natural Resources

The diversity of the geological build of the country contributes to the occurrence of a wide
variety of mineral resources. Poland, next to France, has one of the richest assortments
of minerals among European countries. It has got particularly large hard coal deposits
(mined in coal-pits located mainly in Upper Silesia) and brown coal (strip mined near Konin,
Turoszow and Belchatow). Very large deposits of copper shale occur in the Lubin-Glogow
region. There are significant deposits of native sulphur which are located near Tarnobrzeg and
Staszow, and rock-salt which is mined near Inowroclaw and Klodawa.
